You are employed to work for _________ hours per week. You will

Flexibility is an important aspect of the job and is expected from
you.
You will receive payment only for the hours that you work, except
for your legal entitlements to holiday pay, sick pay and maternity
pay. Sick pay and maternity pay will be paid in accordance with
statutory arrangements.
If, occasionally, I do not require you to work some or all of your
scheduled hours, and provide you with less than 72 hours notice,
you will be paid at 50% your hourly rate. If you receive less than
24 hours notice, you will be paid your full hourly rate for your
scheduled working hours.
Wages
The current rates of pay are:

Sick Pay
When you are on sick leave, you will be paid in accordance with
Statutory Sick Pay regulations as laid down by the Government.
Maternity Pay
Maternity pay will be paid in accordance with Statutory Maternity
Pay regulations as laid down by the Government.
Holiday Pay
You are entitled to 4.8 weeks paid holidays per year based on
full time hours. Part-time employees are entitled to the equivalent
on a pro rata basis. The holiday year is based on a calendar year
(1 January to 31 December inclusive).
Duties of the post
Your duties are described in the job
description you were provided with when you applied for this
post.
Confidentiality
It is very important that you respect my privacy and that of my
family, friends and neighbours. It is your responsibility to keep
any information gained about me or anyone else, in the course of
working for me strictly confidential. You must not discuss or refer
to my personal business with any other person.
Punctuality and Reliability
You must arrive at your agreed starting time. If, you are delayed
for more than 10 minutes, please inform me by telephone. Please
do not arrive more than 10 minutes earlier than the agreed time.
It is very important that you are reliable and refrain from failing
to attend work regularly with no good reason.
Conduct
As your main place of work is my home, I expect a reasonable attitude
towards your responsibilities during working hours.
You are asked to:
- Respect confidentiality and privacy in relation to all aspects
of my life (including any dealings with my family, friends and
neighbours).
- Perform the tasks detailed in your job description.
- Switch off any mobile phone while you are on duty. If there
is a circumstance where you need to be contacted, please inform
me so we can arrive at a mutually suitable arrangement.
- Notify me as early as possible if you are unable to work.
- Provide a telephone number where you can be contacted.
- Respect my home and personal property. If you remove any item
in my home from where you found it, please return it before you
leave.
- Use any equipment in a safe manner. If you are not sure how
to use any particular item, please ask me for instructions.
- Make me aware of any issue related to working for me that may
compromise the health and safety of anyone.
- Be aware that there may be times when you are on duty, that
you will be required to wait for me if I am busy.
- Be able to travel to work independently.
- Report any accidental damage to my home or personal property
to me immediately.
You must not:
- Use my property without my consent.
- Arrive for work under the influence of alcohol or illegal substance.
- Bring anyone (including children) to my home without asking
me first.
- Bring pets or other animals to my home.
- Smoke inside my home.
- Drink intoxicating beverages or indulge in illegal drug taking
in my home.
Breaks
You are legally entitled to a break of 20 minutes away from where
you normally work if your working day will be longer than six hours.
There are no specific times for breaks. Arrangements for breaks
will be dictated by the events of the day. I will endeavour to be
as flexible as circumstances allow.
Covering for other staff
You may be asked occasionally to work extra hours in the event
of other staff being absent because of illness, leave or holidays.
I will provide as much notice as possible. You will receive payment
in accordance with the arrangements detailed in the section headed
“Wages” in this contract.
Sickness
If you are unable to work due to illness, please inform me as soon
as possible to allow me time to make alternative arrangements. You
are expected to provide a minimum of 12 hours notice of absence
due to sickness unless there are good medical or personal reasons
that prevent you from doing so. Please contact me by telephone as
soon as you realise that you will be unable to work owing to ill
health. If I am unavailable, please leave a message.
If you are sick for more than seven consecutive days, it is necessary
for you to let me have notification (a sick line) from your doctor.
You also need to telephone me 48 hrs before each sick line ends.
If you do not do this, I cannot guarantee that there will be work
for you on the day you are due to return as I will have had to make
alternative arrangements for that day.
It is very important that I have the appropriate support when required
therefore, I reserve the right to review your employment with me
If you are unable to attend due to illness for 3 weeks in any 6
months period. I will consult your doctor about the impact of your
illness on your ability to carry out the duties of the post. I will
seek your consent prior to any contact I have with your doctor.
Should it be necessary for me to terminate this contract due to
your inability to work owing to illness, you will be entitled to
the appropriate notice (this is outlined in the section headed “Termination
of Contract”). The only pay you will be entitled to during
the period of notice is Statutory Sick Pay if that is applicable.
Holidays
It is important that you let me have at least 2 weeks notice of
any holiday leave you plan to take. Holiday leave is arranged on
a first come, first served basis. I will try to accommodate your
request but if this is not possible owing to another member of staff
having previously arranged to be on leave on overlapping dates,
I reserve the right to refuse your request. You are entitled to
4.8 weeks paid annual leave.
Leave must be accrued in advance during your first year of service.
Bank Holidays and Public Holidays
If your working day happens to fall on a bank or public holiday,
you will be required to work, unless you book that day off as annual
leave at least two weeks in advance.
Probationary Period
There will be a probationary (trial) period lasting six months,
during which time either of us may terminate the contract of employment.
I reserve the right to extend the probationary period, should I
deem it necessary.
Should you prove unsuitable for the post, I reserve the right to
pay you one week’s wages rather than require you to work your
notice.
Should gross misconduct on your part occur, you would be dismissed
immediately.
Pension
There is no pension scheme with this post. If you desire a privately
funded pension you should make your own arrangements.
Staff Training
I will train you in the specific requirements of the post, during
the probationary period and beyond. We are jointly responsible for
identifying any further training needs that you may have.
Terminating the contract
If you wish to terminate this employment contract, it will be necessary
for you to give me 4 weeks notice in writing. I need 4 weeks in
order to give me the time to replace you with a new Personal Assistant.
If I need to terminate this contract for any reason (with the exception
of gross misconduct), you will receive notice of one week for each
year you have been employed by me (up to a maximum of 12 weeks).
On successful completion of the probationary period, notice of the
termination of employment by me will be in writing.
I have the discretionary power to pay basic salary in lieu of notice
as an alternative to the your working your notice.
Gross Misconduct
If, after investigation, you are guilty of gross misconduct, you
will be dismissed instantly. Gross misconduct includes:
- Threatening behaviour towards me or anyone else.
- Verbal abuse towards me or anyone else.
- Wilful damage to or destruction of my personal property or home.
- Serious breach of my confidentiality.
- Fraud or theft from me or my family, friends and neighbours.
- Arriving for work under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Serious disobedience of my instructions, (including conduct
which, undermines my self autonomy).
- Deliberately or knowingly compromising my safety or that of
anyone else.
Disciplinary Procedure
If I am considering taking disciplinary action against you or dismissing
you for any other reason than gross misconduct, I will inform you
in writing. I will provide reasons for the action.
I will arrange a meeting with you to give us both the opportunity
to discuss the action and the reason for it. I will provide all
relevant information to you in advance of the meeting. You have
the right to be accompanied by a work colleague or individual approved
by a Trade Union to this or subsequent meeting.
If you are dissatisfied with any decision that I make at the meeting,
you are legally entitled to request an appeal which should be lodged
within five working days. I will arrange to meet with you within
a reasonable timescale.
I will endeavour to make you aware of my decision as promptly as
I am able to.
I reserve the right to suspend you on full pay pending any investigation
into an alleged incident.
The stages of the Disciplinary Procedure are as follows.
- Recorded oral warning (expires after six months)
- Written warning (expires after nine months)
- Final written warning (expires after twelve months)
- Termination of contract of employment.
Grievance Procedure
I will endeavour to address any grievance brought to my attention
by you, by means of negotiation. If this informal approach fails,
it is your responsibility to give me a written explanation of any
grievance that you have in relation to working for me.
On receipt of your grievance in writing, I will arrange to meet
you to discuss the issue or issues that you have raised. After the
meeting, I will advise you of my decision in relation to your grievance.
If you are not satisfied with my decision, you may request an appeal
within five working days. I will arrange to hear your appeal at
a mutually suitable time and venue. After the appeal, I will let
you know my final decision.
