This year’s Event will consider the question Independent Living – how are we doing? It will feature a keynote speaker from the European Network of Independent Living (ENIL) and new information about recent developments at CILNI.
The theme of the event will enable us to examine the key drivers for our work and how we are impacting the independent living movement.
Through the presentations we will also explore ways to work more effectively to bring about positive change for disabled people.
The keynote speaker is Zara Todd .
Zara is former director of European Network of Independent Living and co-founder of ENIL’s Youth Network. She has been actively engaged in the disability rights advocacy since the age of 10 and has worked at local, national and international levels including advising the UK government, The British Council and the Council of Europe. Zara works for ProjectScotland a youth volunteering organisation. In her spare time Zara is one of the directors of Sisters of Frida a disabled women’s organisation.
Our new website, which we will be launching at the meeting, will gather everything in one place to serve as a “one stop shop” for all of the information on the services we offer disabled people. The site is designed to help individuals take greater control over their own personal support arrangements.
After the meeting, there will also be the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Kingspan Stadium, providing a behind-the-scenes peek into how the old Ravenhill stadium which opened in 1923 has evolved into one of Northern Ireland’s leading modern sporting stadiums. It will be interesting to compare the Kingspan Stadium with the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park which we visited for last year’s AGM.
Note: vehicle access (and pedestrian access (apart from match days) is by way of of Mount Merrion Avenue. The postal address of the stadium, for satnav purposes, is 134 Mount Merrion Avenue, Belfast BT6 0FT. For a map showing how to get to the stadium, please click here.
