A very special event was held on Thursday, 19 April 2018 celebrating the lives and stories are some of the people involved in the disability rights movement in Northern Ireland in the last 30 years plus. Over the last year, Harry Reid and Karen Hall, from Disability Action, have been working collecting a series of interviews from activists and supporters and collating key timelines of the disability rights movement locally.

The event included an informal discussion discussing the stories and the evolving landscape in Northern Ireland in respect of rights in general and particularly those rights regarding disability.

This material is designed to be used by disabled people and their allies and will hopefully motivate others to continue the struggle! There are certainly many challenges still to be faced in battles to be fought.

The project materials can be viewed online at: https://www.disabilityaction.org/voices or you can view Philomena’s contribution on YouTube by clicking the link here.

Note: The project was funded by the Sigrid Rausing Trust.
